Android Mobile v2 Open for Beta Testing

Posted on February 10, 2025February 12, 2025 by Alex

It’s been some time since we updated the Android Mobile app, and for good reason as we completely rewrote the app from the ground up with newer and better technologies.

Android Mobile v2 is now available for beta testing, the app will update only for those that joined the beta program. (there is currently a limit of 2,500 seats for testers)

The beta program can be joined from this link. It can also be joined from Stremio’s app page in the Play Store, and there is also a guide here (check for the “Get beta versions of apps” topic) that may help some enable it for their accounts.

So what changed? Everything really, as we said this is a complete rewrite of the app, but some highlights are:

  • supports Media3 (ExoPlayer) as the internal video player (and has a setting to prefer VLC) similar to how to the Android TV app works
  • written in Kotlin, which means it is much more performant than the previous version
  • many design tweaks and other changes

For those that join the testing phase, you can submit bug reports at this link. (please remember to state that you are using Android Mobile Beta)

Stremio Android Mobile v2 will stay in testing phase until we have enough data about the stability of the app, when we can be certain that it is stable enough to compare to the previous version, we will make a public release it for all users.

Stay tuned as we have more surprises for our users in 2025!

The content on the login page is positioned to the left.
I guess it’s meant to be centered?

Android TV is fast. Possibly your device is slow on android TV.

Screen rotation during playback is missing. Addon version details is missing. Fluid app otherwise.

What a beautiful update! Excellent player settings, very fast poster loading, extremely responsive, everything running super smoothly.
I hope there will be an update for Android TV / Google TV with the same performance.
A tip regarding Cinemata: some episode posters either don’t load correctly or don’t exist at all. You could consider adding a language option in Cinemata.
Anyway, my compliments, the update is 10/10 so far. Looking forward to that update for Android TV.

I love the new interface. It’s nice that the screen doesn’t go black when you rewind anymore in the default player. Thank you for all the hard work you do.

    Using Android mobile beta:

Every time I try to open this app, whether on my phone or STB, I get a black screen.

    Resolution to stop this:

    Exit app> force stop> reopen

    Phone Device: Samsung A55/ 5g> Android 14.
STB: Ugoos AM 8 Pro > android 11.
