Some Hisense TVs (specifically from USA) use Android TV instead of Vidaa OS, on those TVs you can install Stremio directly from the Play Store.
While Stremio is not available in the Hisense with Vidaa OS app store (although we have been trying to get into the Vidaa developer platform since August 2024), you can still install Stremio by sideloading it on your Hisense TV.
There is a video showing all the steps at the end of the blog post.
First you will need to change your DNS settings, on the TV we tested with, the DNS settings were under Settings (cog icon) > Connection > Network > Network Configuration > Advanced Settings > IP Settings.
It is recommended to take a photo of the settings on the “IP Settings” page to know how to change it back later. (this is not needed if you currently use “DHCP”)
Change to “Manual” and then change “DNS Server 1” to “94.140.114.69”, if “DNS Server 2” should be “0.0.0.0”. (it could already be set to this value) Press the “Save” button to save the changes.
Open the TV’s “Browser” app, in some cases you may not be able to navigate away from the Google input field when you open the browser app, but if you wait about 20s you should be able to navigate on the screen.
Go to “https://vidaahub.com/” in the browser, you will initially see a message regarding secure connections, accept it and you should see a Stremio page with 2 buttons (“install stremio” / “uninstall stremio”), press the “Install Stremio” button and you should see a success message.
Go back to the IP Settings page (Settings > Connection > Network > Network Configuration > Advanced Settings > IP Settings) and change the settings back as they were before. (if you were previously using “DHCP”, then you only need to change from “Manual” to “DHCP” and press the “Save” button)
Turn off the TV from the power button, wait about 5s and start the TV again. If you navigate to the end of the apps list, you should see “Stremio” installed.
Known limitations:
- it does not include the Stremio Server, so you won’t be able to stream torrents
- embedded audio tracks and embedded subtitle tracks work, but you cannot apply any styling settings to embedded subtitles in particular
