Stremio Tech Update #28 – Trakt Scrobbling, 2 Way Sync & More

Posted on February 23, 2024April 30, 2024 by Alex

We recently went through the logic of our official Trakt integration for Stremio to see how we can improve it for the users.

Here’s what changed:

  • Fixed a critical bug that would cause the Trakt integration to not send all Stremio playback events in some cases
  • Greatly improved matching of movies/episodes from Cinemeta to Trakt
  • Implemented automated Trakt token refresh for users
  • Added an “Import” button for Trakt in the User Dashboard on the website, this imports your entire Trakt history to Stremio’s library for 2 way Trakt sync, this button can only be used once every 24h

Note: There can be a delay of up to 30s for Stremio playback events to be reflected on the Trakt website.

Given limited testing of these features within our team, we are considering them (for the time being) experimental. We will be monitoring the servers for the next few days to ensure that everything is working correctly.

What is regrettable is that some films do not have subtitles in Portuguese…..

Only 8 users from Portugal on Trakt anyway, not a big loss.

Would you consider option to remove import of trakt lists with that addon? We already have other addons that do it better. I like to keep my main page clean.

It would be amazing if Stremio had other options of internal players for the desktop version that had support for RTX Video and RTX HDR. Yes, we can use VLC for external player, but it doesn’t track pauses and other data.

Can we please have audio transcoding, for example DTS HD to DTS core, Dolby TruHD to Dolby digital, I had to use the miserable Kodi as an external player to get surround sound. Thanks for your hardwork devs.

We need customization on the home screen. I don’t like the clutter. I would like to remove the trakt history and recommendations..

“Success: 341 items imported from trakt watched list. (341 movies & 0 series)”

What about all the TV shows I watched?

(added this on discord as well as a thread just now)

I thought this brings in the history as in “status” paired with movie/show IDs, not actually updating your library with what you have in your watchlist.

    Questions :
is it possible to have an option to only update the library with “unwatched” items ? It brought in movies I’ve seen so long ago I’ve even forgotten about. I want a “light” stremio library, without the load of the items I’ve already watched.
I know you are not importing TVshows yet – I saw there is a blog comment that we should try again tomorrow. Where is that pull coming from ? I have all my current movies on the default “watchlist” but all my tvshows are on a custom list called “TV Shows” as if they are in the watchlist, they are being removed from it even if you watch a single episode.

tldr I guess. Can we pull movies/shows as an option from specific lists and also, just “now watched” items ? I can make a bug/report/request, but wanted this her for visibility and other user’s opinion.
