Stremio Tech Update #31 – Stremio Android TV Updated

Posted on July 4, 2024July 18, 2024 by Alex

It’s been some time since our last tech update, as we were busy releasing the LG TV Stremio app.

This update is all about Android TV, let’s see what changed:

  • Updated Media3 (ExoPlayer) version to 1.4.0-alpha02
  • Fixed an issue where the watched time was not progressing properly in some cases
  • Fixed an issue where audio delay would not be cleared after using libVLC as internal player
  • Sync Android TV home channels on power on/restart or wake up
  • Improvements to searchable app provider
  • Always open streams in external player even if previously a different player was saved in stream state (when external player is selected in the settings)
  • Fixed libVLC player not starting from previously known position when continuing to watch
  • Added “RecognitionService” query to app manifest (may fix issue of search button not working on some devices)
  • Force subtitles to use software layer to potentially fix issues where users would need to disable hardware accelerated views in development options for Stremio not to lag when watching with subtitles
  • Automatically switch to libVLC when Media3 (ExoPlayer) starts with audio only but no video frame was rendered
  • Updated language lists for audio / subtitles settings
  • Updated Stremio Core
  • Updated Stremio Streaming Server

The updates are currenly in the process of rolling out, it may take 24 – 48h for updates to reach all users.

For those that use Android TV devices that do not include the Play Store (and are thus not receiving automated updates), you can use this link to the downloads page on our website to access the downloads prior to cache expiration.

Stay tuned as we have many surprises planned for our users!

Am I the only one? The update works very slowly or no image at all. I deleted the entire app and installed a new one, but unfortunately almost nothing works. System Android TV Nvidia Shield

Yeah, it’s switching to libVLC for me when it never used to. Trying to watch a 4K HDR file on a fully updated 2021 Sony TV (X90J). Turning subtitles off made no difference.

Problems with Exo player, switches to VLC, and VLC won’t start subtitles.I’m using Xiaomi Android TV Stick,Android 11.
I think the problems started after the last update.
