This is one of the more anticipated updates from Stremio, and it was a tough one to release.
We made an attempt at releasing with Media3 (also known as ExoPlayer) v1.4.0-alpha02 (updated from v1.3.0). Although our testers couldn’t find any obvious bugs, our users did.
Within 3 days we released a hotfix downgrading from v1.4.0-alpha2 to v1.3.1, and this mitigated some of the issues, but apparently not all of them.
We posted variations of the app that used v1.3.0 and v1.4.0-stable to a limited public in hopes of understanding the issues better, as none of the reported issues could be reproduced by our team.
The feedback was surprisingly inconclusive and (at many times) contradictory, which delayed a fix.
So, what changed in this release?
- Reduced video player request timeout to 20 seconds (users reported improved playback experience)
- Disable
experimentalTextTrackTranscodingEnabled
inMedia3
(fixes a playback start crash on some devices) - Fix for missing posters on devices using older Android TV OS versions
For those that didn’t install the app through Google Play, you can download the latest release (Android TV v1.6.12) from the official downloads page.
So, what version of Media3 was used in this release?
Thanks.
What is regrettable is that some films do not have subtitles in Portuguese and it even takes a long time for subtitles in Portuguese to be displayed…..
Which version to install on Nvidia Shield TV pro?
The horizontal preview as it is now on android devices is not very functional. It is not easy to find the content because you have to scroll endlessly because there is no preview like on a laptop.
It would be great if you could do the same content review on android devices as you do on a laptop.
