We are delighted to announce the launch of the very first Stremio contest: the “Add-on. Game on!” competition for developing Stremio add-ons.
As you probably know, Stremio is an open-source project. This means that any developer can create and host an add-on so that all 4.7 million Stremio users can enjoy more video content. This year, we decided to encourage more coders to participate with a special initiative. This is why we initiated a special contest, where we will give away prizes in the equivalent of $5,000 in Bitcoin.
The competition is open to anyone who has the technical skill to develop an add-on. It will run until May 20, 2018, so that gives you plenty of time to submit an add-on or two (there is no limit on the number of submissions you can enter).
Competition entries will be evaluated by a 5-member judges panel. One of the judges will be a member of the core Stremio team; two of the judges will be members of the Stremio community management team; and two more will be members of our community who have applied to be judges.
We will give away a total of $5,000 payable in Bitcoin in the contes, divided as follows:
- 1st place: the equivalent of $2,000 in BTC
- 2nd place: the equivalent of $1,000 in BTC
- 3rd place: the equivalent of $500 in BTC
- Community vote: the equivalent of $500 in BTC
- Community judges prize pool: the equivalent of $1,000 in BTC
Ready to enter the contest? Head over to the special competition page and submit your add-on today!
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need programming skills to participate?
A: Yes. You need to be familiar with Node.js.
Q: Can I take part if I don’t want to create an add-on?
A: Yes. You can apply to be a judge on the contest. You would still need technical skill, though.
Q: How are you going to select the community judges?
A: The Stremio development team will get together and evaluate all the application forms for community member judges. We will then select the ones who have the best technical expertise and highest Stremio involvement.
Q: Can I participate both as a judge, and as an add-on developer?
A: Sadly, no. There’s a conflict of interest here, and while we trust you won’t judge your own add-on to be the best one, we’d rather keep things clean.
Q: Do I need to host the add-on I create?
A: You can if you want to, but you don’t have to. A link to the Git repository of the add-on is enough to enter the competition.
Q: Can I submit more than one add-on?
A: Absolutely! You can submit as many add-ons as you wish.
Q: Can I create an add-on that is country-specific?
A: Not only you can, but we encourage you to do that! Have a favourite Brazilian TV channel? Create an add-on for this! Fan of Korean sitcoms? Make an add-on for that!
Q: Can I get my prize in cold, hard cash?
A: No. Prizes will be paid out in Bitcoin but hey – cryptocurrency is hot right now so wouldn’t it be exciting for you to get in on it?
Q: Can I ask my friends to vote for my add-on?
A: Yes! And not just your friends – we recommend you ask your mom, your grandma and aunt Sheril to vote too, so you have an even better chance to win our community vote.
Q: What’s the answer to the Universe?
A: 42 and purple cats.
