We strive to keep Stremio as stable as possible, and we test it thoroughly befоre every release. However, because of the complex nature of the software and many third-party providers that we use, unforeseen issues may happen.

We often get thе question “My Stremio app is acting weird. What should I do?” and the answer is always the same: we need more information about the difficulties you are facing – what exactly is happening, what device are you using, what’s your operating system, which version of Stremio do you have, etc.

However, there are a few somewhat-universal actions you can take to resolve the issue. Here they are.

Check your antivirus software

Some antivirus programs recognize Stremio as dubious software, therefore prevents its proper functioning. If you feel that your Stremio app is not behaving quite as expected, try disabling your antivirus program, then relaunch Stremio.

If this solves the issue, please drop us a quick message letting us know what’s your antivirus provider so that we can get Stremio whitelisted.

Set DNS resolution

Sometimes, the Stremio services are not accessible because of restrictions by your internet service provider (ISP), namely – issues with the DNS addresses that your ISP has automatically assigned to you. This may sound technical and complicated but it’s not – we promise! All you need to do is follow the steps described in this article and you’ll be good to go in no time: How to change your DNS resolution.

Check the VPN

Some internet service providers prevent users’ access to certain website and/or services. In these cases, we recommend that you try accessing Stremio through a VPN service (using VPN is recommended for protecting your online privacy anyway).

However, if you are already using a VPN service and Stremio is still exhibiting strange behavior, try disabling the VPN and see if it works.

Update your video card (GPU) drivers

Something that often solves technical difficulties, connected to Stremio, is making sure that you have installed up-to-date GPU drivers.

Update your OS

This piece of advice is kind of obvious but we’ll mention it anyway. One of the reasons for your Stremio app performing poorly may be the fact that your operating system is outdated (especially if you’re a Windows user.) Make sure you have the latest version of your OS installed and relaunch Stremio to make the most of your video streaming experience!
